Support at Work: How ERNs Are Helping Employees Thrive

In the heart of Ohio, the Central Ohio Workforce Development Network (COWDN) is transforming how businesses connect with talent—and how that talent is supported. With 13 founding member organizations, COWDN operates under a powerful guiding principle: “no wrong door.” No matter where a job seeker enters the system, they’re connected to the right resources, opportunities, and support to achieve stable, meaningful employment.

Introducing THRIVE: Central Ohio’s Employee Resource Network

A key initiative advancing COWDN’s mission is THRIVE, Central Ohio’s local implementation of the nationally recognized Employee Resource Network-USA (ERN-USA) model. Through THRIVE, trained Success Coaches are placed directly onsite at participating companies. These coaches work one-on-one with employees to help them overcome personal and logistical challenges—such as transportation issues, financial strain, or caregiving responsibilities—that can impact job performance and well-being.

“THRIVE is more than a program—it’s a promise to our employers and residents. By meeting employees where they are and supporting their whole selves, we’re helping businesses grow stronger from the inside out.”
— Scott Johnson, Director, Central Ohio Workforce Development Network

Why the ERN-USA Model Works

The ERN-USA model has a proven track record of success:

  • For employees: Real-time, personalized support that helps them stay focused and succeed at work.
  • For employers: Higher retention, lower absenteeism, and a more engaged, productive workforce.
  • For the community: A shift toward employer-driven support systems that prioritize people—not just productivity.

Broader Movement for Regional Impact

By joining COWDN and participating in THRIVE, businesses do more than strengthen their internal teams—they become part of a regional movement to enhance economic stability and social well-being. It’s a win-win: companies demonstrate a commitment to corporate social responsibility while helping to build a more resilient and skilled workforce across Central Ohio.

The Future of Workforce Development

The future of workforce development in Central Ohio is collaborative, compassionate, and community-first. Through COWDN’s innovative approach and the launch of THRIVE, the region is leading the way in creating workforce solutions that benefit businesses, employees, and the broader community alike.
